Piyush Goyal heads to Canada to foster bilateral trade and investment
The Canadian Government noted that Goyal’s visit showcases an opportunity for Canada and India to further their work toward an Early Progress Trade Agreement (EPTA).

Piyush Goyal, Indian Minister of Commerce and Industry will be hosted by Mary Ng, Minister of International Trade, Export Promotion, Small Business and Economic Development, Government of Canada, between May 8-11, 2023, at the 6th India- Canada Ministerial Dialogue on Trade and Investment (MDTI), in Ottawa, Ontario.
According to a news release by the Ministry of Commerce and Industry, the two leaders co-chaired a discussion on the spectrum of trade and investment-related issues and cooperation areas.

The dialogue focused on themes including strengthening bilateral trade relations between India and Canada, investment promotion and cooperation, and green transition – including critical minerals discussion and B2B engagements.
The Canadian Government noted that Goyal’s visit showcases an opportunity for Canada and India to further their work toward an Early Progress Trade Agreement (EPTA). At the fifth MDTI held in March 2022, both Ministers re-launched negotiations regarding a Canada-India Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA).
Goyal will head to Toronto on May 9, 2023, and May 10, 2023, where he will have various engagements to promote trade and investment. He will meet CEOs of key Canadian companies, attend roundtables of Indian and Canadian CEOs, interact with Canadian and Indian companies based in Canada, and participate in the Financial Sector Round Table.
According to the Indian Ministry of Commerce, Goyal will be accompanied by a delegation of Indian CEOs led by FICCI. The release reads that the Minister will inaugurate the Indian Pavilion at SIAL CANADA-2023, a food innovation trade show in North America having over 1000 national and international exhibitors from 50 countries. Delegations from the Trade Promotion Council of India (TPCI), Agricultural & Processed Food Products Export Development Authority (APEDA), India Trade Promotion Organisation (ITPO) and Associated Chambers of Commerce and Industry of India (ASSOCHAM) are set to participate.
India's stand-in skipper K.L. Rahul said on Nov. 29 his team was feeling confident with the return of stalwarts Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma as they try to move on from the South Africa Test debacle.
South Africa inflicted a record 408-run defeat on India in the second Test in Guwahati on Wednesday to clinch the series 2-0.
It was India's fifth defeat in their past seven home Tests dating back just over a year to New Zealand's 3-0 sweep.
India now head into a three-match one-day series with South Africa, starting on Nov. 30.

Star batsmen Kohli and Rohit, who have retired from Test and Twenty20 cricket, have returned for the 50-over matches.
"Their importance at any time is huge," Rahul told a news conference in Ranchi in eastern India.
"To have senior players in the team makes the dressing room feel a lot more confident and their presence (and) experience helps a lot of players in the dressing room. I am really happy they are here," he said.
Rahul, who is leading the side in the absence of the injured Shubman Gill, also admitted that the team was "disappointed and hurt" at losing the Test series.
"But it's important to forget that and focus on how to win this (ODI) series. That conversation is happening," he said.
The one-day series will be followed by five Twenty20 internationals.
